Spring storms produced incredible skies and lush greenery in 2023

Snakebite is a fast 20k and 10k run on trails in the beautiful McDowell Mountain Regional Park. Come enjoy the beautiful desert scenery, gently rolling hills, and mild weather.

10K:  Early bird $45 (hru November 30, 2024 | $60 thereafter

RACE DAY DETAILS

PARK ENTRANCE FEE, CAMPING FEE: There is a small entrance fee ($7 per vehicle) for the park. If you want to join us for camping at the Youth Group Campground the night before the race, there will be a $15 charge at the gate.

PACKET PICK-UP / START and FINISH AREA: Go to the Youth Group Campground at the far north end of the park. Follow the Snakebite signs. After entering the park, please allow up to 20 minutes to reach the start area.

COURSE BRIEFING:  7:45 AM

Start time: 8:00 AM

AID STATION: You may want to carry a water bottle. In addition to the start/finish line, there is an aid station on the course at approximately the 3-mile mark. 20k runners will pass it twice. We will provide water, Gu products, Coke and some food items. Drop bags at start/finish area.

CUTOFF: 4 hours. This is strictly enforced. The finish line closes at 12:00 PM. You must do the first loop in 1 1/2 hours or less.

POST-RACE: We hope you’ll stay for refreshments and awards! At 11:00 AM, awards for McDowell Mountain Cup series finishers also will be awarded.

COURSE MAP: These are well-traveled hiking trails with brown signs marking the Verde, Pemberton, Escondido, and Minx trails. We will place a few additional markings at key intersections. See map below (20k is 2 loops):

Other Details

Camping / Lodging:  Race Director Brian has reserved the Youth Group Campground area for the Saturday night before the race, $15 per camper/tent. If you enjoy camping and a bonfire, we hope you’ll join us in the park for a relaxing evening under the stars.

There are a few hotels right in Fountain Hills, including Comfort Inn and Lakeshore Hotel & Suites, with many more options in Scottsdale and the surrounding area. Many private rentals also are available through Airbnb and VRBO, but book early! 

Weather: In February, Arizona weather can be 35° to 95°. Be prepared for all weather conditions and dress accordingly.

Awards: Overall male and female winners, plus Masters and Super Masters winners. McDowell Mountain Cup series awards also are announced after this event.
