Race Format
“Goats in the Dark” is back! Formerly part of the SHATS or South Hills Annual Trail Series, this unique and family-friendly night race is not to be missed. It starts at the intersection of LeGrande Cannon Blvd and Silverette St, on Helena’s far west side. The race takes place in late August, when nighttime temperatures should be pleasant and runners can take in the beautiful sunset views before full darkness descends upon the course. Headlamps are still required — don’t forget yours!
The Course
The course follows LeGrande Cannon Blvd east to Tubbs Trailhead, where runners head up the switchbacks for a fun loop on Swaney, Diretissima and Ambrose trails on Mount Helena’s western flank. Runners finish the singletrack portion of the course on the Panhandle trail, which drops down to Reber Rd and onto LeGrande Cannon Blvd for a 1/4-mile sprint back to the start/finish line.
