The series is known as “SHATS,” or South Hills Annual Trail Series. Races 1, 2, and 3 are run in various locations near Helena, Montana, offering a variety of trails and amazing scenery in our area. The final race takes place on the South Hills trail system and finishes in historic downtown Helena.
The longest distance is 20k and the shortest is 5k, including one nighttime trail race. There’s something for everyone! Registration is open to all, and participation in the series is optional.
Scoring: Male and female winners of each race score 1 point; the second-place finishers score 2 points, and so on. At the end of the series, points are totaled (see note below on scoring for races with 2 distances). For those who finish all 4 races, the highest score is thrown out (best of 3). Prizes are awarded following the last race in the series (Ridge Rumble).
Scoring for races with two distances:
- For the Thunderbolt Creek 12k / 30k (held on July 15), points for 12k finishers were tallied based on their finish time x3.
- For the Little Blackfoot 10k / 20k (held on July 29), points for 10k finishers were tallied based on their finish time x2.
